Dustin Contreras is a law enforcement professional with over twenty years as a sworn Deputy Sheriff for the County of Kern. Dustin was elected to the Kern County Employees Retirement Association by members of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Kern County Fire Department, and the Kern County Probation Department in December of 2021.

During his time as a Deputy Sheriff, he was primarily assigned to Metro Patrol and the Detectives Division as a Senior Deputy. While in patrol, he served as a Field Training Officer, Patrol Detective, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Honor Guard Team Leader, and Recruit Training Officer. While a detective, he was assigned as a sexual assault investigator, homicide scene investigator, white collar/financial crimes investigator, public integrity investigator, and Kern County’s first Human Trafficking Detective before being promoted to the rank of Sheriff’s Sergeant.

Dustin is married with five children and two grandchildren. In his off time, he is a part-time Judo instructor. He volunteers as the Co-Director of the Kern Coalition Against Human Trafficking, a grassroots organization of subject matter experts in anti-human trafficking within the County of Kern. Dustin is also a Kern Sheriff Employee’s Benefit Association board member.
